State of Wisconsin Members
Thank you for visiting the MercyCare Health Plans website. We hope you will find our site to have the information and direction you need to properly manage your health care.
MercyCare Health Plans helps to link the entire Mercy Health System together by offering a complete continuum of health care services readily available to its membership. We also offer contracted providers for additional specialties and for those services needed in outlying areas and specialties. This means that our members can receive care from the 18th most integrated healthcare system in the nation and at over 170 provider locations throughout southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
Awarded the 2007 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award; the nation's highest presidential honor for quality and organizational excellence, Mercy Health System is a vertically integrated health system with 63 facilities; serving 24 communities, throughout southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. 97% of Mercy Health System physicians are board certified and 100% are board eligible. This is a remarkable average-much higher than the national average and higher than other area health care providers. Board certification is widely recognized by physicians, health care institutions, insurers and patients as an essential tool to judge that a physician has the knowledge, experience and skills to provide quality health. I do not agree with MercyCare Health Plans decision to deny my referral request to an out-of-plan provider. What are my options?
You should first contact your physician or practitioner who submitted the referral to MCHP and discuss covered alternatives. If your physician or practitioner disagrees with our decision, he or she should contact our Medical Director. In any event, you have the right to file a grievance by contacting customer service, who will in turn advise you how to proceed with the grievance process.
